Is Your Website Searchable on Google?
Simple ways to check if your site is findable—and what to do if it’s not
You built a great website. But if Google isn’t indexing it, your audience can’t find it. Indexing is the process where Google reads and stores your web pages in its search engine. If you’re not indexed, you’re invisible. Here’s how to quickly check whether Google is indexing your website—and how to fix it if it’s not.

Why Indexing Matters
Indexing is step one in being discovered online. Without it:
- Your site won’t appear in Google search results
- No matter how well you’ve optimized keywords, they won’t matter
- New content won’t get found or ranked
It’s like having a beautiful store with no street address.
4 Easy Ways to Check if Your Site Is Indexed
1. Google Search: Use the site:
Command
Open Google and type:
site:yourdomain.com
- If results appear: Your site (or parts of it) are indexed
- If no results appear: Google has not indexed your site
This is the fastest and easiest check.
2. Use Google Search Console
If you haven’t already, set it up:
- Go to Google Search Console
- Add your domain (e.g.,
yourdomain.com
) - Verify ownership (typically via your DNS settings or hosting provider)
Once set up, you can:
- View which pages are indexed
- Submit new pages
- Identify any issues blocking indexing
- Request indexing manually
This is the most reliable method for ongoing visibility.
3. Check Individual Pages with URL Inspection Tool
Inside Google Search Console:
- Paste any page URL into the URL Inspection Tool
- You’ll see if the page is indexed or not
- If not, you can click “Request Indexing”
Use this for new blog posts, product pages, or pages not showing up in search.
4. Review Your Robots.txt and Meta Tags
Sometimes, your site is accidentally telling Google not to index it:
- Visit:
yourdomain.com/robots.txt
2. Make sure it doesn’t say:
Disallow: /
3. In your HTML, check for this tag in the <head>
:
<meta name="robots" content="noindex">
4. If it exists, Google will skip indexing that page. Remove any accidental “noindex” tags from key pages.
What to Do If Your Site Isn’t Indexed
If you’re not indexed yet, here’s how to help Google crawl your site faster:
- Submit a sitemap via Search Console
- Add internal links to every new page
- Get backlinks from other websites
- Use clean, fast-loading design and mobile-friendly layouts
- Avoid duplicate content or thin pages
